BERNE, Oct 17 — Manchester rivals City and United have so far not taken their domestic form into Europe and will be among 15 teams attempting to win their first matches in the Champions League group stage this week.
While it is no surprise that the likes of Viktoria Plzen, BATE Borisov and Otelul Galati have failed to register wins as the third round of matches loom, City and United’s poor starts in the competition have raised eyebrows.

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak spent his time tonight with his selected Facebook and Twitter followers watching the English Premier League football match between Manchester United (MU) and Manchester City at Seri Perdana, here.
Najib who is a staunch supporter of MU, arrived at about 8.15pm and was greeted by thunderous applause from the football fans, most of them being strong MU supporters.
In his speech, Najib said he was very pleased when some 2,500 requests were received to attend the event but fortunately it could only accommodate 300 people.
Najib said watching the EPL could spur Malaysia''s young to choose football and the government had embarked on the programme called "1 Mukim 1 Futsal" to help develop the sport further.
"In the recent budget, the government had set aside RM30 million to build about 20 artificial football fields around the country," he said.
The prime minister hoped it would stimulate grassroot development of football in this country, as it was his hope and dream to see Malaysian football at a greater level.
"I also hope that by doing sports development from the grassroot level, we will be able to nurture young talents for the future.

Sir Alex Ferguson insists Manchester United will recover from the worst result of his career after the Premier League champions were thrashed 6-1 by Manchester City at Old Trafford.
The extraordinary defeat represented City's biggest win at Old Trafford since January 1926 as Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko claimed two goals each, with further strikes from David Silva and Sergio Aguero.
Table-toppers City are now five points clear of bitter rivals United after a remarkable day in the history of both clubs. It was the biggest defeat suffered by Ferguson in his illustrious 54-year career as a player and manager, and also United's heaviest Premier League loss.
However, Ferguson, who blamed the defeat on the dismissal of defender Jonny Evans moments into the second half, expects United's players to show their character and bounce back in the League Cup tie at Aldershot on Tuesday.
I'm shattered, I can't believe it," Ferguson said. "It was an incredible disappointment. We played some brilliant football in the first 10 minutes.
"It was hard to believe we were 1-0 down but that’s retrievable. The sending off was the killer blow.
"After that we kept attacking. It's alright playing the history books but common sense has to come into it. When we went to 3-1, 4-1 we should have settled for that.
"But you have to recover. The history of Manchester United says we will recover. Read More

LONDON, Oct 26 − Manchester United beat League Two Aldershot Town 3-0 in the League Cup fourth round yesterday to begin the road to recovery after their humiliating 6-1 defeat by Manchester City Sunday.
Nicely-crafted first-half goals by Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen underlined the visitors’ dominance and Antonio Valencia’s stunning strike on 48 minutes put the result beyond any doubt.
“The laughter and the jokes have quietened down a little bit. It was a big kick in the teeth as everyone knows,” former Real Madrid striker Owen told Sky Sports of how his team mates have reacted to Sunday’s humbling.
“We were a little bit under pressure after the result on the weekend. Although no one here started on the weekend we had United’s reputation to look after. Roll on Everton now,” added Owen.
Manager Alex Ferguson was visibly relieved and will hope for a similar performance against Everton in the Premier League on Saturday. Licking their wounds
